Its quite possible that Jobs was seeing a practitioner of eastern medicine who was focusing on diet and diet related issues, and the board asked him to see a western doctor who then found something else. Thus both statements can be correct. In fact, its also possible that he was seeing a western doctor who believed it was a hormonal imbalance, but again at the request of the board, he got a second opinion and this second doctor found something else. Either way, I see no contradiction in the two statements. Both express different levels of certainty about the problem, and its quite plausible that the understanding of the situation increased in the interval between the statements.
