However, before they settled on calling the next version of their browser Internet Explorer 8, the IE team at Microsoft tossed around a few alternatives. Including…

“IE Desktop Online Web Browser Live Professional Ultimate Edition for the Internet (the marketing team really pushed for this one)”

At least they have a sense of humour :)

    Nice to see they have a sense of humour about the whole thing (especially the very geeky Ie^2.079). But it does highlight how hard it can be to name things – in this case I think they were right to stick to a familiar & successful formula and save confusion, considering they have to appeal to a mainstream audience.
