Integrating Google Reader and Safari

One of the reasons that I keep going back to NetNewsWire is its integration with Safari. One click on the RSS button when Safari spots there’s an associated feed, and you’re subscribed. Of course, there’s a bookmarklet that does the same thing, but it just doesn’t feel as elegant as an integrated solution.

Enter Reader Notifier, a small application which sits in your menu bar and gives up an updated list of your feeds in Google Reader, updated every few minutes. But more than that, because it’s an application you can set it as your default feed handler in Safari – which means you can subscribe directly.

It’s got a number of other little tricks up its sleeve, such as integration with Growl, and it’s completely free and open source.
